    • Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open Run.
    • Step 2: Type cmd then press Ctrl + Alt + Enter to run Command Prompt as administrator.
    • Step 3: Type the following commands while hitting Enter after each command.
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth” without quote and press ENTER.
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth” without quote and press ENTER.
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthCheck Disk.
  • Step 4: After you finish, perform the SFC scan one more time then determine whether the issue persists.

Disk Cleanup

  • Step 1: Press the Windows key + E to open Windows Explorer.
  • Step 2: Click This PC then right-click the disk you want to clean.
  • Step 3: Select Properties, go to the General tab then Hit Disk Cleanup.
  • Step 4: After Windows finishes calculating the amount of space that requires cleanup, check the boxes for the files you like to clean.
  • Step 5: Click OK then hit Delete files on the confirmation pop-up.
  • Step 6: Wait until the cleanup then rerun the SFC scan.

Clean Boot

  • Step 1: Turn off your PC and turn it on again.
  • Step 2: As the logo starts appearing, press the power button three times to get Windows to the Advanced Recovery Environment.
  • Step 3: In Choose an option, select Troubleshoot then go to Advanced options.
  • Step 4: Click Startup Settings then hit Restart.
  • Step 5: Once the PC restarts, click Enable Safe Mode and this will take your PC to Safe Mode.
  • Step 6: Launch cmd as administrator then run the SFC scan

Note: After the clean boot is complete, remember to boot normally using the following steps

  • Step 1: Press Windows + R to open Run.
  • Step 2: Type msconfig then hit Enter.
  • Step 3: In General tab, pick Normal Startup and click OK.
  • Step 4: Once prompted, hit Restart.

Windows Update

  • Step 1: Press Windows + I to open Settings.
  • Step 2: Select Update & Privacy then click Windows Update
  • Step 3: Hit Check for Updates and if an update is available, it will be automatically downloaded and installed.
  • Step 4: Once the installation is done, restart your computer to effect changes then run the checker.

Reinstall Windows

If all the solutions have failed to address your issue, you will have to reinstall Windows.

  • Step 1: Launch your web browser, visit the Microsoft website and download the Media Creation Tool.
  • Step 2: Once the download is complete, you will be prompted to run the Media Creation Tool so hit Run.
  • Step 3: Read all the terms and conditions then hit Accept.
  • Step 4: Select Upgrade this PC now then choose Next.
  • Step 5: On the next window, ensure that the box beside Keep personal apps and files is checked then hit Install.
  • Step 6: Assuming that the installation is a success, choose the account you want to sign in with then accept the terms.
  • Step 7: Once you have signed in, all the system files should have been free of corruption. That means the message about “CBS.log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log” would no longer pop up as you run SFC scan.

  • Step 4: On your desktop, the sfclogs.txt file will be created. Double-click it to open the file and read it.
