For those who are wondering what the “Big Picture” thing on Steam is, it’s really cool and offers a brand new experience for those running their PC on an HDTV. But whenever you start certain full-screen games, Steam automatically enters big picture mode. This sometimes may annoy you! If you are confusing aboutSteam Exit Big Picture mode, here’s the right place to come.
It would be great if there is a real way to not show or disable the option to “Exit big picture mode” because this doesn’t make much sense when you open steam with big picture flag but without a desktop environment on the background.
What is Big Picture mode?
Big Picture is a newly-launched mode of Steam designed to navigate Steam with a game controller. With Big Picture, you can enjoy a brand new experience of Steam games in a new full-screen user interface which has been completely redesigned for readability and interaction on TV.
Controller Support levels
You can play any Steam games in Big Picture mode though not all Steam games support the use of a controller. Currently, Big Picture supports the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows, the Xbox 360 Wired Controller, and the Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710.
How to launch/close Big Picture mode
After you launch Steam, click the “Big Picture” button in the top right corner, or press the home button on your controller while using the Steam client.
To exit this mode, click or press your controller’s “A” button while focused on the “Big Picture Mode” button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen( Steam UI). Another quick way to open/exit Big Picture’s fullscreen mode is to press ALT + ENTER on your keyboard.
You can exit Big Picture just fine, but how do you quit a Big Picture game without going to my keyboard?
Most modern games have an option built in that’s on the main menu or pause menu, usually labeled “Exit to Desktop”. All you need to do is to pause the game > exit to the main menu > exit to desktop, whereupon you’ll be taken back to Big Picture.
Some games will let you “exit to desktop” right from the pause menu such as Far Cry 3 does.
Exiting Steam from Big Picture mode
Have you ever decided to give Big Picture mode a try but you can’t figure out the way to exit a game once you’ve started it?
Unfortunately, choosing ‘exit’ only can close the Big Picture mode screen and goes back to normal desktop Steam but can’t exit Steam itself from the Big Picture mode. This is a little bit challenging! We are pretty sure that Big Picture doesn’t have an “Exit Game” function, and that’s probably because of the way to exit each game is not the same.
Is there any way to exit big picture (not steam) and turn the controller off with a single button?
Every time you close Big Picture or steam in general, I have to manually turn off your controller right after. You may be wondering whether there is an option to exit big picture (not steam) and turn off the controller with a single button. The answer is YES.
In the controller settings, you can turn off the controller when BPM is exited. Then you can simply press Alt+F4 to close BPM and the controller will turn off as well. Steam’s desktop version will continue to run with this method as well, it is only BPM that is closed with the Alt+F4.
